Washing Machines: Chapter 1

Installation

By the end of this module, you should be able to do the installation of a washing machine.

Introduction

Installation is the process of placing machinery or apparatus in position and connecting it for use. Washing machine installation is done by an appliance installer.

The appliance installer is the one who delivers, installs, and connects the appliance to customers.

Required Tools

We may need the following tools for the installation of a washing machine:

  • Scissors,

  • Gloves,

  • Pliers,

  • Spanners, and

  • Screw driver.

Unpack Washing Machine

Unpack the washing machine and check if there is any damage during transportation. Also, make sure that all the required items are given. If there is any damage to the washing machine during the transportation or any item is missing, contact the supplier immediately.

Select the Location

When installing a washing machine, make sure it’s in a suitable location. The installation surface must be firm, dry and level to minimize noise and vibration.

Install the washing machine away from direct sunlight and high humidity, and choose a location with good ventilation.

The location characterized as follows shall be selected:

  • Rigid, dry, and level surface,

  • Avoid direct sunlight,

  • Sufficient ventilation,

  • The ambient temperature shall be between 0-40°C,

  • The ambient RH shall be below 95%.

The machine must be perfectly leveled and stabilized when the four supporting feet are close to the ground. Lower the feet as much as possible on the basis that the machine is leveled. Improper leveling adjustment may cause a loud noise, machine vibrating, machine displacement, and other abnormal phenomena.

Remove Transit Bolts

Before installing the washing machine, transit bolts must be removed. For removing transit bolts, loosen them with a spanner. Take each bolt head and pull it through the wide part of the hole. Fill the holes with the supplied plastic covers.

Connecting Water Supply Hoses

Connect the water supply hose to the connection at the back of the washing machine. Connect the washing machine supply hoses to the water source.

Setting Up the Drain Hose

A drain hose is usually installed behind the body of the washing machine. For installing the drain hose, locate the drain point and fit the drain hose into place by it over clamps coupling. Then tighten the clamps with the appropriate wrench to make them leakproof.
